Soundshok: The bringers of bloodshed

12/09/08  ||  Euthanatos

Soundshok. Scottish lads from Arbroath. Try saying that with your mouth full. Full of what? Full of cum, you twat. Anyway, this is their debut, an attempt at aggressive metal, metalcore, proto-thrash or whatever you want to call it. No, they aren’t very successful.

Soundshok’s music sounds extremely generic and the production is as polished as a turd. Think of a cross between Machine Head, Sepultura and Fear Factory, but without none of the redeeming qualities of those bands. Add to that a really crappy production. There you go. My main beef other than the production is the vocals. Stop screaming Mr. Thain. You’re no good. You sound like a bear with a headache. You’re trying too hard, which means you’re going to ruin your vocal chords and your vocals sound like shit to everyone else but you, because you’re probably deaf, or lack common sense, or both. Plus, the vocal lines are generic as fuck. You can’t just repeat the same thing over and over again in every track. It sounds retarded. And holy shit, what is up with the sound of these drums? Not only is the production murky as fuck, the drums sound like something out of a Sarcofago-drum-machine-era-record. What in the fuck are these guys thinking.

With song titles like “Genocide?”, “Respect is to Kill” and “Isolation is Power!”, I don’t know what else one could expect. I love Scotland, I was raised there, they are the coolest people in the world and nothing would give me more pleasure than to encourage a Scottish band and help divulge it. Fuck me, not this shit, though. And while we’re at it, what a stupid fucking name.

The cover: Pretty good. A scary Bedouin-like figure.

3 haystack piles reeking of horseshit out of 10.
